Victim Impact Panel
The purpose of the Victim Impact Panel (VIP) program is to help DUI and DUI offenders identify and internalize the lasting and long-term effects of DUI at MADD. Mind and understanding, leaving a lasting impression that changes thinking and behavior and prevents future criminal behavior. In VIP, victims, survivors and others affected by materially impaired driving accidents briefly describe their injuries and/ or an accident in which a loved one died or was injured. They spoke in first person about how the crash affected their life. They did not blame or judge and they simply told their own stories, describing how their lives and the lives of their family and friends were affected Effects of the crash. Not only does MADD Victim Impact Panels bring criminals face-to-face with victims of drunk and drugged driving, the program also provides much-needed mission funding that MADD invests directly back into the community to prevent these crimes from happening again. The symposium also provides opportunities for victims to heal and share their stories in a meaningful way. If you cannot find a VIP in your area, please contact your local MADD office to assist you, or to see if you qualify for an Online Victim Impact Team.
